How Finding Purpose Can Help Growing In Faith

By Catherine Wagner

Any person can go through different phases feeling utterly meaningless and dejected. This can be a common experience for anyone, but it can be excessively difficult to shake off these feelings and thoughts by merely keeping yourself distracted. Growing in faith is a common solution that others often suggest to shake off these haunting feelings.

Naturally, nurturing faith is an advice easier said than put into practice. Others may find it easier and others may find it harder. Faith need not be the belief in a religious being. Even those who do not worship God can lose faith. In these circumstances, faith can simply mean optimism or hopefulness in life.

Living life feeling insignificant might be because you have lost your purpose or are still on the verge of finding it. Without purpose, it could be challenging to justify moving on. Purpose is critical because it gives us the courage to face trials and tribulations. An inspiration may be a friend, partner, family member, or a personal goal. Basically, finding meaning is the best approach to regaining faith.

Some people discover their purpose as toddlers in the form of an ambition. Most of the time, this ambition can take a different form as the person grows. Someone who initially wanted to become an actor as a child may eventually change her mind and decide that she actually wants to be a doctor. Those who are lucky stick to a single ambition for the rest of their lives, but what about those who have not figured out their dreams yet?

Although these accomplished young adults can seem intimidating, never forget that people achieve things in life at varying turns. Social constructs may tell you when you should obtain a degree, get a job, or build a family. Nevertheless, these constructs do not take into account whatever unique circumstances you may be dealt with so these should not dictate the speed at which you make major decisions in life.

These questions can put so much pressure on an already wandering soul. To find meaning, you must first set aside all of the expectations society has set on you. Afterward, ask questions. Challenge yourself by asking what you could be doing if only you were not afraid or if life just went your way.

Step out of your comfort zone. By trying out more things and meeting more people, you will learn things about yourself that you did not know of before. You might realize that perhaps you were good at archery, or you love painting, or even photography. Engage in a new sport and learn what you are good at.

Meet veterans in their chosen field of expertise and ask them questions about the choices they have made and what things they would change if they could go back and undo some things. Learn from them and see what things you can do the same. Rid yourself of all societal pressures in order to realize your goals. Understand that everyone walks a different journey. An excellent way to reclaim your motivation is to learn from people. You would be amazed of the experiences they have to share.

Most essentially, be kind to the people around you. If you cannot change your life then maybe you can impact others positively instead. That alone should fill you with purpose and gratitude for everything you get to enjoy in life.
