Using A Jewish And Christian Wedding Rabbi

By Helen Reed

A rabbi is a Hebrew word meaning teacher. Deciding on Jewish and Christian wedding rabbi becomes a necessity when these two faiths are brought together should a man and woman with these two denominations want to get married. It can be a difficult time especially when one party insists that this be the case and wanting a wedding with a this type of flavor.

Judaism is not a religion that seeks out to convert other dominations into its faith. It is a hard and arduous process in becoming a Jew and can take years before one is recognised as one. At times, one of the couple will insist on this and the road to becoming one is embarked upon.

This is why some partners will want to convert and should this be the case, then the local Beth Din must be consulted. The Beth Din or Ecclesiastical court governs laws pertaining to this religion. It is not a religion that seeks converts but rather if there is yearning to become one, then this court of law has to be approached in order to find out what is required in becoming a convert.

Apart from this, if one is not intending to convert before marriage, there is plenty more to consider and to prepare for this momentous day. Taking into consideration that there will be guests who are Jewish, one must cater for their needs as well. This means catering kosher and having kosher foodstuffs brought in and catered for.

Kosher means food that is allowed to be consumed by Jews. This is a prerequisite for an occasion of this kind, as many of the guests may keep to these laws. One can order these in should one not want to go this route and it is easily seen to by any one of the many catering places available.

There are certain times of the year when marriages are permissible so as not to coincide with Festivals and other observed days such as fast days. Besides this it must be decided upon whether or not the use of Chuppah will be used. This is the canopy that the bride and groom stand under during the ceremony.

There are many other customs that can be incorporated into this special day. The unveiling of the bride is another custom that is practiced. This is when the groom checks that the bride to be is really the one he has chosen.

All in all, it is a great way to have this function and a unique one at that which people will talk about forever. List all that is needed to know and work towards the day with glowing satisfaction. It is a momentous day and if prepared properly, will be enjoyed by all those who will be attending it be they non Jews or Jewish people themselves.
