Understanding The Beliefs Of A Connection Church

By Eric Adams

For religious minded individuals, there are number of churches at which to worship. While this is the case, Christian denominations and sects can vary a great deal. In the case of a connection church, most are of the Assembly of God denomination.

As with most conservative evangelical Christian based churches, this church is more conservative in nature. With a platform which believes in God, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and language which refers to each with the male pronoun, it is clear to see that this is a congregation which shares old school values and traditions.

The church believes that the spiritual image of God is reflected in man. As part of this belief, individuals must strive to be more like God in everyday life. While believing that man has the ability to be good, all are effected by sin. At which time, sin separates mankind from God.

In most cases, those attending this type of church are believe to exist separated from God through sin until having accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and have asked for forgiveness. If individuals do not accept Jesus or ask for forgiveness, most of these conservative evangelical Christian based congregations preach that those individuals are living, and will continue to live a life in hell, here on on earth and beyond.

While most churches believe in the Kingdom of God for those whom accept Jesus as Savior and walk a Godly path on earth, not all believe in the same aspects of salvation. For, some Christians believe that Christ died for the sins of the world, and that all are the children of God and thus, have been saved through the spilled blood of Jesus.

Salvation, according to those involved in the faith is a gift from God to man. While this is the case, man can never overcome sin through self-improvement or by becoming involved in good works. In fact, the only way to salvation is to receive Jesus Christ and share in the belief of the Holy Trinity. After which, through prayer, study and worship the individual can become closer to all aspects of God.

Once having received Jesus Christ as Savior, the individual has been saved by the grace of God. As such, salvation is an everlasting gift which requires no self-effort on the part of the individual. As a result, the individual is maintained by the power and grace of God through the Bible which while written by the hands of men is the one and only inspired word of God.

As with most organized religions, the Bible is believed to be written by men though the inspired word of God. While some denominations add additional text in other publications, this particular congregation believes in using only Biblical text as the reference for sermons and worship. Whereas, most all Christian faiths believe in song and worship, while some such as the Church of Christ do not believe in using instruments, others often use a piano or organ as accompaniment to music during worship services and other events.
