By Gary Stewart

We hold the future in our hands. What we do today can affect it. Sometimes we just have to stand for our beliefs to make it happen. Partaking in public charities can help in realizing our advocacy. We must pursue the passion to turn the vision into reality. Our actions today can beneficial for everyone only if it is done with determination and persistence.

Search for non-profit organizations in your area. Review their vision and mission before enlisting with their group. Meet with their heads, if possible. Note their field of expertise and their achievements. Socialize with their members. Interview them regarding their experience in the group. Do a brief research about where they get their funds and what they do with it. The organization should not only embody your goals but also operates legally towards the desired change.

Tax-exempt groups do more than launching fund raising events. They do field work. Some members offer their expertise for to those who needs it more. You can either do that or pledge monetary assistance for their activities. Try to work your schedule around it to experience both. There is a different satisfaction when you engage in these activities personally.

You can consider yourself a public servant when engaging volunteer work. Always armor yourself with a cheerful heart, a lending hand and a smile when doing this. Open your heart while you listen. Be more understanding and patient. Not everyone would appreciate your presence right away however that can change if you are persistent. A frozen heart can melt with sincerity and love.

Do not expect everyone to understand your vision. You may invite others to support your goals but never impose. Be cautious of exerting your opinions. Doing volunteer work does not demand approval from others. You do not need to bend bridges just to get your message across. Educate them and let them decide whether they want to join the group or not. Always remind yourself that we are all unique.

You would not get commendations with volunteer work. You would not even get pay for the sacrifice. Others may not even remember you and how you helped them. Be steadfast. True happiness can only be found in sincere service. It would definitely take time to reap the fruits of your persistence so do not be disheartened.

All organizations are established based on guidelines. Do not hesitate to question any irregularities that might occur in the group. Gather evidences before raising the concern in a proper forum. Do this in a diplomatic mood. Arguing about it would only result to chaos. Evidently there are rules governing this concern.

Change will always be elusive. It may not happen in your lifetime. Making a stand for it is a total sacrifice. Some may not even appreciate it. You may not even be remembered. However no one will make such sacrifice if you would just stand in silence. Find an organization that serve this purpose and live a fulfilling life.
