Planning A Fabulous Central Park Wedding

By Susan Anderson

Everybody wishes for their wedding to be magical and a day that they will remember fondly. There are those who choose to marry in church, with some others preferring a simpler civil service. Often a civil ceremony can lack romance, but if the setting is right it can be as beautiful as any cathedral. A great combination of simplicity with a stunning setting is a central park wedding.

In the middle of one of the world's most famous cities, New York, NY, this stunning parkland is truly iconic having featured in movies and TV series. A landmark in its own right it provides a beautiful setting for the perfect romantic marriage ceremony. There are numerous places within the park to choose from and they can all be booked online. There is also help available to plan your whole day and ensure everything runs smoothly.

The most popular place for weddings is the Conservatory Garden area. With three different areas to choose from, each with a feature pool or fountain, there is a style to suit everyone. The English garden has a labyrinth and the Italian style pergola provides an ideal background for photos. This area is situated just off 5th Ave. At 105th St.

Another popular location for wedding parties is The Ladies Pavilion. It is over on the west side of the city between 75th and 76th Streets. This extremely picturesque Victorian styled pavilion is adjacent to The Lake. It brings to mind the Victorian era when young women carrying parasols and their beaus walked among the trees and bushes planning their own special day.

All the elements of nature come together at The Pond providing the perfect combination of peace and beauty. Ducks swim about on the pond while trees and flowers frame the lake with blooms and foliage. The Gapstow Bridge the background adds the feel of a Monet painting to an already idyllic scene. The Pond is located just inside the main entrance which is off 5th Avenue at 56th Street.

If you decide that you would like to marry in this wonderful natural setting, the first step is to book a date. You can go online and reserve the date and location of your choice. Bear in mind that you are not allowed to erect tents or canopies so think about the weather. Plan a contingency location in case of heavy rain or high winds.

There are restrictions surrounding the size of group allowed at some of the ceremony sites. There are planners who can help you pick the right one depending on the number of guests you would like to invite. The maximum possible is 300, but with some areas the number is a lot fewer. You will need to apply for a permit from the Parks and Recreation Department which may take anywhere up to 30 days to be processed. This permit can be applied for online and your planner should be able to assist you with the paperwork.

You will also need to get a marriage license which can be obtained from the city clerk. There is information about this online and it is necessary wherever you choose to get married. You must have your license at least a day before you can get married. There are several companies on the web offering planning services who can organize every part of your very special day.
