A Brief Biography Of Dario Broccolino

By Ina Hunt

Howard County needed another state attorney after the resignation of the then holder of office. This post had to be filled by Dario Broccolino as a stand-in attorney. Years later, this man would become the elected attorney of the county. Before ascending to this interim position and being formally elected as the office bearer, he had been working as the deputy attorney in this same office from 1999.

Before he became an attorney, he had been a coordinator and Executive Director at the association of attorneys for eleven years; from 1988 all the way to 1999. He then served in Baltimore as an assistant state attorney. At this point in time, he worked with four elected attorneys. While in Baltimore, his job description included prosecuting on economy related crimes, drugs and arson.

He was born and brought up in the city of Baltimore. He went to Loyola College located in Maryland, where he got his first degree in 1967. Later, he joined the University of Baltimore and got his J. D degree and years later an advanced law degree with a bias in taxation. Before becoming a lawyer, he had taught social studies at Kenwood and Dulaney High Schools, all are found in Baltimore. For the few years that followed, he worked on the adjunct faculty in Maryland Law School.

Dario has been in several leadership positions in a number of professions. He, for instance, is the former president of the association of state attorneys. The governor of the state appointed him to the board of victim services medical marijuana in 2013. The same governor had earlier appointed him to the cease fire council of Maryland. This is a commission whose main objectives are minimizing misuse of firearms and violence.

Between the year 2000 and 2008, he served on the Maryland Handgun Board after an appointment by the then governor. The next governor reappointed him giving him the opportunity to provide his services up to the year 2008. At the moment, he sits in the association of Maryland bar workers and James Macgil American court. He is also a member of the bar foundation of Howard county.

Dario has lived in this region right from 1975 up to today. He currently works as the head of the Ellicott City Department of fire. This man has also previously worked as the treasurer of the St. John Community. It is evident that he is a very busy human being. His numerous leadership posts are testimony enough to this fact.

He has equally been a very active member of youth sports in the county. He has worked in this sector in several leadership and facilitator positions for many years. Attending to all these activities and jobs is not an easy task, but this man has managed handling all of them for all this time.

He has been a married man for over thirty nine years. His wife Donna Broccolino died some years back, but the rest of his family still lives in Howard County. They had two children, both of whom are married, and four grandchildren. He is a very dedicated family man as may be seen from the way he takes care of his beloved family.
