They have to maintain the said accessory if they want to maintain its luster. After all, it is not like rubies and diamonds which have their own natural luster to go by.

When the rhinestones are cleaned, they will have a bright and striking color. If the person is aiming for this, then there are various steps that one has to remember for the cleaning. Following these steps make it possible to achieve success with the task. First, make sure to cover the work station for this cleaning with paper towels.

Get a can of compressed air. Spraying this on the said gemstone will allow the person to remove loose dirt from it. There may be those caked-on dirt so the person will have to get and use a toothpick to loosen it up. It is not recommended to use metal tools like dental pick or needle since these will easily scratch the gemstone's metal settings.

Rubbing alcohol is another useful tool for the said task. With the rubbing alcohol, which is oftentimes called isopropyl alcohol, evaporates easily so it should not leave moisture onto the said accessory. Without moisture, it will be impossible to damage the accessory's metal settings. It will not easily tarnish and darken, and are thus preserved from getting damaged beyond repair.

A cotton swab will come in handy in this cleaning process so make sure to obtain them along with the alcohol. The person needs to dip the cotton swab in the alcohol. Rub as much moisture coming from the tip as possible onto the paper towel. This prevents creating a puddle of alcohol into the gemstone.

The said item might have several rhinestones in it. For such cases, clean the item up by going over the stones one by one. There may be times when the stone becomes wet because of the excess alcohol on the swab. If this happens, just dry off the excess moisture on the stone through the other end of the swab.

The front part of the gemstone is not the only place that requires cleaning. Make sure to turn the said gemstone over and clean up the metal finish. Use the cotton swab for this as well. If the swab is already dirty, it is fine to change the swab. Dip the new swab into the alcohol and rub off the excess onto the paper towel.

There are gemstones that are open-backed. For such stones, making a few mini-cotton swabs will be helpful. To make one, just remove a small portion of the cotton of the swab. Get a toothpick. Make sure to wet it. Stick the toothpick into the cotton. With this, one can clean off the stone's crevices.

It should be useful for the person to have the said swabs. With this, the person does not have to worry about the parts of the said rhinestone jewelry that are hard to reach. The person can certainly clean up every nook and cranny of the said accessory without fail.
