Being parent advocates is not easy but thanks to the support of other members in the community. You can get through the challenges of dealing, handling, understanding and loving your kids with learning disability by connecting with other families who are also in the same situation. Children with special needs are not a burden to the family.

It is important that all the other members of the family understand that the other member with physical handicap needs to be given more attention than the others. When this necessity is explained well to the other members of the family, no jealousy will ensue. They know and understand that they need not be jealous of the special treatment that he is getting because this is part of his needs.

This is a necessity on his part. The other members of the family will be supportive of his needs. To avoid conflicts or sibling rivalry at home, the first thing that you should do is to explain the predicament as plainly as possible to them.

Educating these kids about the special condition of others start with the fathers and mothers of these children. If you taught your child to be condescending about these kids, people could not expect compassion for kids towards other kids with special needs. Teaching these kids about good values and treating other people with respect lies in the hands of adults.

You do not want to plant animosity among members of the family. It is common for children to feel jealous over their other siblings. But if they have a clear understanding of the situation, the situation can be avoided. They understood why the other needs to be taken care of in a special way.

Most of the organizations nowadays are utilizing the power of the internet to promote their advocacy. The website of the organization really helps in spreading the word about their advocacy. Look for one or some in your area. Search them through the internet. Use the internet tools available.

These are the people who understand your predicament. They do because they are in the same situation as you are. They know how it feels like to be in such a situation. These people are in an organization that supports the cause similar people. It would also be better for you to join a similar organization.

They can have funds through the government as well. If they have events, they need to ask permission from the local government. Also they know that people who want to know about their services and group would get in touch with the local government for information. That is why it helps that they are recognized in the community.

As support, the local municipality can post announcements and other events for the organization in their own bulletin board. Information about the advocacy of the group can be found in the website of the organization. So do not forget to check out if the organization has its own website. You will meet other parent advocates in these groups. It is good to meet new people.
