The 18 Missing Years Of Jesus Christ

By Estela Bolton

The 18 missing years of Jesus Christ is known to be the time period where in the Holy Bible has absolutely no record of the acts of the Messiah from the age of twelve up to thirty. Basically, the Bible does not really give much reference to Him as a child but gave more emphasis to His acts when he already grew up. That is why no one knows what has transpired during this time period.

Of course the Bible did mention some little details about what He had done when he was around twelve years old. In the book of Luke, one would find some scriptures that would talk about His trips to Jerusalem along with His parents. The three of them would always travel to Jerusalem in order to attend the Passover Feast.

Because the only details about these years were only given in these few passages, people started to make their own speculations. A group of mystics speculated that He had gone to other lands like India in order to become wiser and learn new religions. Bible scholars rejected these speculations because no facts could actually back up these claims.

Based on the book of Luke, scholars already inferred that Jesus was in fact not a traveler because it also stated there that He had lived his entire life in Galilee and grew up strong in the faith. Passages also stated that He would be seen with the teachers of the temple and talking to them about God. This is proof enough that He did not have any time to travel around the world because He became dedicated to studying the word of God.

Being the son of a carpenter, many people could not believe that Christ had such extensive knowledge about God. That is why it can actually be inferred that He actually dedicated his life to studying the scriptures so that He could gain more knowledge and more wisdom. The chapter of Luke even specifically stated at how marveled and how awed the people were to hear the words coming out of His mouth.

Of course people still tried to fill in the small gaps as to what He was doing during that time frame although they do not have solid proof. An Arthurian legend stated that He went to England in order to preach the gospel there and share His knowledge. Hence Christianity became the most dominant religion in the entire country.

Other sources suggested that He was studying with certain sects and cults that evolved in Judaism and also traveled with them. Among the most popular ones is the theory that he was studying with the Essenes and traveled to the desert of Judea to learn more from their knowledge. Of course others suggested that He also studied with the Pharisees.

Now even if one would try to find out what happened during the 18 missing years of Jesus Christ, he will not be able to. Too little evidence is given in order to find this out. Unless more facts can be produced, this will always remain a mystery.
