By Karli N. Littel

You have probably seen green cleaners in the cleaning products isle of your local store when you have visited to purchase some cleaning supplies for your house. Many people often ignore the green products and pick up the most popular chemical based product that they can find due to their promise of fast action and easy cleaning. Doing this, however, is actually a bad idea because of how much the chemicals in these kinds of products can impact your family.

When popular chemical based cleaning products are used they give off a certain smell that often causes nasal or lung irritation. This smell has actually become a false indicator of a clean house but it is really just a combination of the chemicals and masking fragrances. Asthma conditions and headaches are often exacerbated when chemical based products are in use but green cleaners are created in such a way that ensures these effects are minimized or non-existent. Also, many people understand that pregnant women should stay away from many household cleaning chemicals due to the possibility of injuring her growing fetus; however, natural cleaners offer a safe alternative for both mom and baby.

Have you ever thought about what happens when you clean your countertops with strong chemical cleaners? The smell of chemical based cleaners is one that tricks us into thinking something is very clean - so clean that you could eat from it. Well, yes you did just kill every nano-sized bacterium on your counter but what happens to the cleaner itself? When you put your food down on that counter top it absorbs it and then those chemicals go in your body.

You may be questioning what the concern is regarding ingesting these kinds of chemicals. Despite that they exasperate respiratory problems, allergies, and headaches they can also cause more serious health problems such as cancer. This may sound a bit farfetched for you but there are many chemicals that are well known for their ability to interfere with your DNA to cause mutations and a bunch of other harmful effects.

It is easy to avoid these potential effects when you clean by using natural cleaning products that are made using plant based ingredients. Since many of the ingredients found in natural cleaning supplies are typically found in some of the foods that you eat, there is actually no concern about DNA damage from accident ingestion of the natural product. Plus, with natural cleaning products you do not have to worry about endangering your children, your pets, or yourself.
